So, I have to admit that I got a little off track on my natural journey. For about the last 9 months I’ve been using a Burt’s Bees facial cleanser instead of the oil cleansing method. Honestly, I don’t know what happened.
My fiancé got me the cleanser for Christmas last year and then I just bought another one when I ran out. I also think that at the time I felt a little disillusioned by the oil cleansing method. When I first started it, it seemed to help my skin dramatically, but then the results faded and I was still struggling with bad skin. I know now that was because of my SIBO. Now that I have treated my SIBO, my skin has greatly improved.
So I recently thought, “I should get back on the oil cleansing method.” I did and my love for it has returned. Again, it instantly made my skin less oily, more soft and I can feel much less build up under my skin. I’m not going to say my skin is perfect, but I’m working on healing my skin and I think the oil cleansing method is really helping me do that.
So, if you’re unfamiliar with what the oil cleansing method is, it’s basically washing your face with oil. I understand that does not sound pleasant, but it is! Really I look forward to oil cleansing every night because I know how good it is for my skin. Here’s a quick run down of how to oil cleanse, but if you want a more in depth description read My Natural Skin Care Routine.
The Oil Cleansing Method:
- Wet your face with warm water.
- Put a quarter size amount of oil into your hand and massage into your face for 2 minutes.
- Put a washcloth under hot water, ring it out and lay it on top of your face. Then lay a hand towel over the washcloth to trap in the moisture. Leave this on for 2-3 minutes or until the washcloth cools.
- Repeat 2-3 times and feel wonderful!
It’s pretty simple, it doesn’t take as much time as it might seem and it’s cost efficient. Once you buy your oils, you’ll be able to use them for a long time.
So, what oil cleansing recipe should you use? There are a lot out there. But I’ll give you a few that you can choose from. And you can always tweak any recipe depending on the oils that you have on hand. Let’s get started!
