January 1st, 2014 I embarked on what I like to call my natural healing journey. It all started with a 30 day Paleo challenge. Within those first 30 days, I felt amazing. My chronic inflammation decreased, I was finally winning my blood sugar battles and my overall attitude improved. Not to mention, I lost about 10lbs and felt energized throughout my day. That was all I needed to start believing that I could fix my issues through diet and natural living.
My journey toward natural healing didn’t stop there. I started to follow other bloggers who were on the same journey and found an amazing network of people. I began to immerse myself in a world that I never knew existed and I was mesmerized. I would literally read blogs for hours, learning and soaking up all the information I could.
Let me give you a little more background on my situation, I grew up going to doctors. You name it I saw them – primary care doctors, gynecologists, orthodontists, dermatologists. I went to them all and regularly. I put my faith in Western medicine to fix my problems. But I was never really able to fix my problems. And now I know why. Those doctors were simply trying to treat my symptoms, instead of looking for the cause of my symptoms and treating that. I’m not saying that doctors are bad or harmful. I’m simply saying that I needed another way to deal with my symptoms, because treating them with medications simply wasn’t working for me anymore.
So, I quit all of my medication, birth control, acne medicine (both oral and topical) and even over-the-counter medication like Advil and Tums. I must admit this change was a challenge, but I was committed to living a more natural life style and the sacrifices were worth it to me. However, I continue to struggle through the process of facing each of these issues and I am still working on healing my body naturally. Don’t worry, I will share all of my stories with you as I continue on this path.
Along my journey, I also took stock of the items in my house, everything from my toiletries to cleaning products, and I realized how many harmful chemicals there were around me every day. So, I took to replacing these things with natural alternatives. Some things I bought at health food stores, some I bought online from recommendations from other bloggers and other things I just started making myself. This was another undertaking on it’s own. And really, I probably should’ve taken my time with this task, as my boyfriend wasn’t too happy with the cost of my total overhaul.
Most recently, I have started to see Functional Medicine Practitioners to help me get to the bottom of health issues that I still haven’t been able to solve. This has been very helpful along my journey. I’m a strong believer in taking all of the help you can get when on your natural healing journey.
So far, it’s been an amazing experience and I feel so blessed to have found something that I am truly passionate about. I hope to help others heal naturally as well and to create a community where people can talk about their own ideas of natural healing, without fear of ridicule or judgement. I want Natural From The Ground Up to be an open, inviting environment for everyone to feel comfortable in pursuing their own natural healing journey. We’re all in it together! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Welcome to your new natural life!
